The Speaker of the Assembly, officially known as the Speaker of the National Assembly, is the Presiding officer of the National Assembly of Newport. The speaker is decided upon by a majority vote by members of the Assembly.
History
The Speaker of the Assembly was established by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Newport in July 2026. The first Speaker, tortenwashere was elected on July 17th, 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Constitution gives the Speaker of the Assembly the following duties and responsibilities:
- Impartially enforcing the rules of the Assembly and facilitating debate in an orderly manner.
- In case of a tie in any vote, voting to keep debate going or to keep the status quo.
- Protecting the rights of Deputies to speak freely within the Assembly.
